Redefine Your Health, Transform Your Life

Prevent Type 2

What is Prediabetes? Could you be at risk?

According to the CDC, “more than 88 million US adults (1 in 3) have prediabetes and 90% of them don’t know they have it. Prediabetes is a risk factor for type 2 diabetes.” Through a weight loss and physical activity goal, the CDC’s Prevent Type 2 program is aiming to reduce the number of people at risk for prediabetes. Prediabetes occurs when blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but not high enough for a type 2 diabetes diagnosis. Risk for developing type 2 diabetes may be reduced or eliminated by weight loss, healthier eating, and increased physical activity. Find out if you might be at risk by taking this CDC online risk test

If you are at risk for prediabetes or diabetes, you may qualify for the CDC’s Diabetes Prevention Program, Prevent T2, offered through the YMCA of Avery County or the Broyhill Wellness Center. The Prevent T2 program is an evidence-based lifestyle intervention program that promotes weight-loss and type 2 diabetes prevention. You’ll work with your coach(s) over the course of 1 year to reach weight loss and activity goals to reduce your diabetes risk.
