Sip, Stand, Stretch – Go Live Self Care Program

Sip, Stand, Stretch – Go Live Self Care Program

Sip, Stand, Stretch Challenge

September 17 – October 14

Sip, Stand, Stretch (3S) is a self-care intervention to promote health and wellbeing during the UNC Appalachian Epic Go-Live period.

Win prizes and improve your health just by standing, sipping, and stretching throughout your workday!

How does this program work?

The rules are simple. Your goal is to SIP, STAND, and STRETCH every hour that you are working.

SIP – Your goal is to increase hydration by drinking water each hour. How much water you need per day is dependent on many things such as your size and your activity level. No minimum amount is required for the challenge – just do your best to sip every hour! Coffee, tea, and infused waters do count towards your intake but we encourage you to do your best to drink water in its purest form! Sodas and other sugary beverages do not count.

STAND – Your goal is to stand up or move your body for a minimum of one minute every hour. If allowable, build to several minutes per hours and add other exercises if you choose, such as taking a short walk down the hall.

STRETCH – The goal is to, ideally, select stretches that target the parts of your body that are engaging in repetitive movements or being held static from looking at the computer (e.g. neck, shoulders, etc).  We will send examples and flyers to help!

TRACK: This is informal and passive! Hard copy forms will be available for pick up in Cannon lobby or at Watauga basement elevators. We will also email a form you can print or you can totally use your own form! At the end of the week, drop your weekly form in the box or email Employee Wellness. Prize drawings happening each week!

Giveaways: Week 1: Mast Store Candy Bags; Week 2: To help you with sip, 4 hydroflask bottles; Week 3: To help you with stand, $100 gift card to Mountain Running; and Week 4: to help you stretch (out), a Kelty outdoor loveseat/chair.

It is important to note that even if you did not sip, stand or stretch every hour, you will STILL RECEIVE credit for the day/week, just by submitting your participation form! Just note your total sip, stand, and stretch for the day.  Tracking and reporting heightens our awareness of our typical behaviors and identifies room for improvement and growth!

Planning for 2024 Love Your Life

Wellbeing is SO much more than just Employee Wellness department impacts: It’s your work-life harmony, it’s your emotional wellbeing, it’s your mental wellbeing, and of course physical. It’s about connections to purpose. It’s about connection to others. I’m trying to figure out how to build that into our future platform(s). With all that in mind, Bravo is encouraging me to use their Health Assessment Review coaching call with the Cleveland Clinic as one of the ways to support the vast array of goals/stages of change within the organization.

Please enroll/complete the 1-time coaching call and provide me with your feedback by mid-August.

Your feedback is completely confidential. Unless you tell me, I will not know who completed the coaching session or who provided feedback here.  Be honest and provide your constructive criticism. Thank you!

Leadership Tools – WellBeing & Culture Index

Work affects both our physical and mental well-being – in good ways and bad. Creating a culture where ARHS employees thrive is a business imperative which allows us all to adopt healthy habits, reduce mental health parity, increase resilience, and increase inclusiveness. And our ARHS leadership/management teams’ role modeling of well-being behaviors as well as identifying employee needs are a crucial element of impacting an overall culture of wellness for all ARHS employees.  It starts with us!

January: Introducing the Well-Being and Culture Index

We know 2023 is going to be a challenge with extra demands placed on you and your team. Our goal as we roll out these monthly resources is to make them as easy as possible for you to support your team (and yourself).January’s resource is the Well-Being & Culture Index for leaders. This tool was created using resources from the Wellness Council of America and the US Surgeon General’s Framework on Workplace Mental Health and Well-Being.

Use the Index:

  1. This document is by no means the only resource you have. Use it as a starting point of inspiration for your area.
  2. The Index is visual pulse check on different topics related to work culture, growth, resiliency, and overall well-being.
  3. You can rate each area of the Index based on your perceptions/norms for your team or include your team for feedback.
  4. Once you’ve finished rating, what stands out to you on the document?
    1. Are there areas you scored low on that you would like to nurture?
    2. What is working well for your team(s) and how can you facilitate a continuation of supportive practices? Especially during a challenging year of implementation and integration.
